‘Jesus was led by the Spirit in the wilderness and tempted by the devil’
Temptations were a constant part of Jesus’ life just as they are a constant part of our lives. In the last verse of the Gospel we are told, ‘When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.’ Luke is very clear that after three instances of temptation in the desert Jesus was NOT free for the rest of his life. At ‘opportune times’ temptations returned. The Gospel is clear that temptations were a part of Jesus life, just as they are a part of our life. Only when we properly understand this Gospel can we properly encounter Jesus along the road and walk with him. According to TS Eliot in “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” life is made up of constant decisions, little ones and big ones. As he says, there is, “time yet for a hundred indecisions, and for a hundred visions and revisions.” Jesus faced life just as we do – with temptations, joys, sorrows, successes and failures. Whether we sin or don’t sin, we can be certain that Jesus understands what temptations feel like. The Kingdom Jesus died to reveal to us is a Kingdom based on forgiveness, and the God Jesus died to reveal to us is a God of forgiveness. When we sin we have only to say ‘sorry’ and we can be certain that Jesus not only understands us, but also forgives us…

Join us for a little extra Prayer & Reflection for Lent on Wednesday after 7:30pm Mass.

This season of Lent is a sacred time of reflection, repentance, and renewal for Christians around the world. It is a 40-day journey that mirrors Jesus’s time in the wilderness, a period of fasting, prayer, and preparation for the celebration of Easter. During this season, we are called to draw closer to God, examine our hearts, and seek His will for our lives. Prayer is at the very heart of this journey, serving as a powerful tool to connect with God, express our deepest desires, and align our hearts with His purposes.

Prayer for Spiritual Renewal.
Dear Heavenly Father, as I enter this season of Lent, I come before You seeking spiritual renewal. Cleanse my heart, mind, and soul from all that separates me from You. Renew my spirit and draw me ever closer to Your healing presence. Help me to let go of all distractions and focus on Your will for my life. May this season of Lent be a time of deep reflection and transformation as I grow in faith and obedience to You.
Amen.
