Eight days later, Jesus came!
In today’s Gospel, The repeated words of Jesus, “Peace be with you” suggest that the very first act of Jesus, after his Resurrection, was to put his disciples’ minds at rest. As he was in life, so in Resurrection, his first and only thoughts were for others. In our own times of crisis, or doubt or fear or stress, the risen Jesus also whispers to us, over and over again, “Peace be with you”. Peter and Thomas and all of the others had a choice on the first Easter Sunday morning when everything lay in pieces around them. Mary said her ‘Yes’ to God when asked to bring Jesus into the World. During these days, immediately after Easter, we celebrate Peter’s ‘Yes’ to God and Thomas’ ‘Yes’ to God and the many, many other ‘Yeses’ made by so many others. This Easter, God invites us to once again say our ‘Yes’ to being witnesses to the Resurrection. It is an invitation to us, indeed a choice. God waits in love for our response…

At the start of this Jubilee year, Pope Francis reminded us that we should indeed prepare ourselves consciously and soberly for the moment when our lives will be judged, but we must always do this from the standpoint of hope, the virtue that sustains our lives and shields us from groundless fear. The judgement of God, who is love, will surely be based on love. As we grieve his death we ask Mary, the mother “who never abandons her children” to guide him safely into the arms of her Son, who he has served so faithfully. Let us entrust Pope Francis into the care and love of God as we give thanks for his life and his witness. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through
the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

Please pray for the souls of PJ Rosney, Raheen; and for Roisin McDonnell, Streamstown; both recently deceased. R.I.P.
