Come and find peace in the Lord.
I know my sheep and they follow me…
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us why we should believe in him, because “I and the Father are one.” If Jesus is one with God, then every word he speaks and every action he does and every interaction with another person he has, reveals God to us. It is the Resurrection, the Easter story, which validates everything that Jesus said and did. The story of God’s love for us goes back to the very beginning of creation. In the vastness of the Universe, God chose one tiny, infinitesimal creature – us! – and bestowed on that creature a dignity, an awesomeness, that would forever set them apart. God created them “in his own image and likeness.”
We may be, and we are, tiny and insignificant in the context of the Universe, but in the eyes of God we are magnificent, chosen and invited to share the very life of God. We must never take the Gospels for granted or cease to wonder at the majesty of the story they tell us. It is a story “too wonderful for us, too high, beyond our grasp.” and yet, thanks to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, it is simply the story of Love.
Please pray for Andy Duffy, Bolands Tce.; for Liam Middleton, Lahinch; and for Elizabeth Kavanagh, Westwood Park: all recently deceased. R.I.P.
