‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’
‘Forgiveness’ is the message in today’s Gospel. Forgiveness was at the very heart of everything Jesus said and did. Whether a sinner caught in the act of adultery, or a thief beside him on a cross, or the Roman soldiers who crucified him, or a wealthy and dishonest tax-collector climbing a tree in order to see him, Jesus reached out in forgiveness to all. When Jesus was lifted-up on the cross and revealed as God, we knew with absolute certainty that our God also reaches out to us with forgiveness. As the late Pope Francis said, “There is no sin ever committed, and no sin that will ever be committed that cannot be forgiven by God, if we say sorry.” This too is where our ‘Peace’ comes from; the knowledge that unlike the world which demands retribution and penalties, God offers a forgiveness that is free of charge, always available and all-embracing. Pentecost celebrates the beginning of the Church – not a building or Temple or structure of any kind – but a people, the ‘People of God’, us, sent out with the power of the Holy Spirit ‘at home’ within us, sent to bring the peace and forgiveness of the risen and glorified Jesus to a world which so badly needs it. Pentecost says to us, ‘do not be afraid, do not let your hearts be troubled, be at peace, because the Holy Spirit, the power of God and the wonderful message of Jesus, live within us.

Prayer Before Exams
Loving God, be with me now as I prepare for my exams.
Thank you for the many talents & gifts you have given me,
and for the opportunity of education. Calm my nerves & anxiety,
Help me to remember all that I have studied, to express it clearly and to answer the questions to the very best of my ability.
Holy Spirit, sit with me in my exam – and always.

Amen.

A Student’s Prayer
Father, please clear my mind and give me the understanding and knowledge that comes from you. Bless me as I take this exam and bring the information that I have studied to mind when it is needed in this exam. Grant me favour as I begin this test. I ask this in Jesus’s name.
Amen
