Everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled!
We read in today’s gospel what Jesus brought to the dinner table was authenticity. The power of his personality and the authority with which he spoke came from a deep sincerity and genuineness which shone through everything he said. Jesus was a person whose words and advice matched his actions and beliefs. When Jesus said, “you must love your enemy” he did it himself – on the Cross, in terrible pain he managed to say, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Jesus, went to that dinner with the Pharisee with no fear whatsoever. The Kingdom he preached was real and it was very close. With absolute sincerity and with no fear he preached what he knew to be true. In the last verses of the Gospel, Jesus appeals to the sincerity of those listening to him. He had revealed the foolishness of those who seek honour and popularity through manipulation and scheming. Now, he speaks directly to the Pharisee who invited him to dinner. “This is the Kingdom of God” he says directly to him and indeed the choice is clear. Do we want to “be honoured in the presence of all the other guests”, knowing that we are acting falsely and hypocritically or do we want the peace and joy of knowing that we have acted honestly and authentically and are part of the Kingdom of God. Each day we make that choice for ourselves. Each day we make that choice for ourselves thousands of times. The wonder of our relationship with God is that at any time, we can turn and say sorry, and start again. The Kingdom of God is always there waiting for us. All we have to do is choose it…

Scoil Phroinsiais Naofa will re-open on Monday 1st September.

The theme for the Season of Creation 2025, which runs from September 1st to October 4th, is peace with creation. Our hope: Creation will find peace when justice is restored. There is still hope and the expectation for a peaceful Earth. To hope does not mean to stand still and quiet, but to act, pray, change, and reconcile with Creation and the Creator in unity, repentance and solidarity.

RCIA – The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process through which those who have never been baptized prepare for initiation into the Catholic Church. The RCIA process helps adults to grow in faith through prayer, study, accompaniment, and worship. Through their interaction with the local Catholic worshipping community, they begin to experience what it means to live as Catholic Christian disciples of Jesus. If you, or someone you know, is interested in exploring the answers to some of these questions, please contact the Parish Office. For further information, visit www.dioceseofmeath.ie/rcia
