You cannot be the slave of both God and Money
Today’s Gospel shows us how the Kingdom of God turns the values of this world upside-down! Bearing witness to our values involves huge changes in the way we view rich and poor, success, happiness and friendship. The parable used in today’s gospel tells us that we must be shrewd, open to learning from everyone, allowing ourselves to be surprised by what we see around us. Also, we don’t have to do everything at once. “Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much.” We can begin, if we want to, by bringing about the Kingdom of God in our family. It is not a secret how we do it: we practise forgiveness, difficult though it be at times. We try to be gentle in the ways we speak and act with each other, We accept that sometimes family members may have different views or different lifestyles to our own. We are tolerant of difference. We try to be generous with our time, valuing every member of our family. Witnessing to each of these values is a conscious decision we must make, conscious that they run against the otherwise worldly values we see around us. Easy? Certainly not! – Possible? Yes! Try it and see!

The theme for the Season of Creation 2025, which runs from September 1st to October 4th, is peace with creation. Our hope: Creation will find peace when justice is restored. There is still hope and the expectation for a peaceful Earth. To hope does not mean to stand still and quiet, but to act, pray, change, and reconcile with Creation and the Creator in unity, repentance and solidarity.
