The life and death of each of us has its influence on others; if we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord, so that alive or dead we belong to the Lord. This explains why Christ both died and came to life, it was so that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. We shall all have to stand before the judgement seat of God; as scripture says: By my life – it is the Lord who speaks – every knee shall bend before me, and every tongue shall praise God. It is to God, therefore, that each of us must give an account of himself. From the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans (14,7-12)

Arranging a funeral in St. Brigid’s Parish

The death of a loved one is always a sad event for a family and the church invites us all to enter into the mystery of Christ’s Resurrection which brings hope and the promise of a place of peace and light in the eternal presence of God in heaven. Funerals are arranged in conjunction with an undertaker of your choice and the priest of the parish.
The usual time for the funeral Mass is 11.00 am and the funeral remains may be brought to the church either the previous evening or immediately preceding the Mass.
It is preferable that members of the family take part in the ceremony by reading the First and Second Readings and Prayers of the Faithful. The priest will provide a selection of readings and prayers for the family to choose from.
Music for the funeral liturgy may also be chosen by the family and it is very important that the hymns chosen be appropriate to the ceremony to make the funeral a dignified celebration of a person’s life and an experience of God’s love for all.
Communion Reflections may also be read at the Mass. However, it is the policy of the Diocese of Meath not to have any eulogy read in the church. It is suggested instead that eulogies be read either at the graveside or during the gathering for refreshments after the burial.
